Structure of IGCSE Combined Science
IB Pathways IGCSE Combined Science is offered at two levels:
Core Candidates
Extended Candidates
These levels differ in terms of syllabus depth, exam papers, and grading range.
Papers to Be Taken
Core Candidates take:
- Paper 1: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Paper 3: Theory paper
- Paper 5 (Practical Test) or Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical)
Extended Candidates take:
- Paper 2: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Paper 4: Theory paper
- Paper 5 (Practical Test) or Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical)
All candidates must take at least three papers.
Note: IGCSE Combined Science integrates Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Schools may also offer these subjects separately.
The Grading Rules
Key points related to IGCSE Combined Science grading:
- Grades range from A (highest) to G (lowest)
- Students who do not meet the minimum standard for Grade G are reported as Ungraded
- The letter “Q” indicates Pending results
- The letter “X” indicates No Result
Grade Eligibility
- Core candidates can achieve grades from G to C only
- Extended candidates are eligible for grades from A to C
- Students aiming for the highest grades should opt for the Extended curriculum, which includes additional supplement topics beyond the Core syllabus
