AS & A Level Languages
AS & A Level Languages (other than English) is an excellent course for students who wish to enhance their professional opportunities or build upon the language skills developed at IGCSE or O Level. The course is available in the following language options:
Afrikaans: 8679, 9679
French: 8682, 9716
German: 8683, 9717
Portuguese: 8684, 9718
Spanish: 8665, 8673, 8685, 9719
Through this program, learners develop accurate and appropriate use of the language in a wide range of contexts. They work with texts and authentic materials, extract relevant information, and complete structured tasks. Over time, students improve their fluency, accuracy, and confidence, gaining strong communication skills for academic and real-life situations.

Structure of AS & A Level Languages
AS & A Level Languages are assessed through the following components:
Component 1: Speaking Test
- Total: 100 marks
- Section 1: Presentation – 20 marks
- Section 2: Topic Conversation – 40 marks
- Section 3: General Conversation – 40 marks
Component 2: Reading & Writing
- Total: 70 marks
- Two passages in the target language on related topics
- Tasks include summaries and comparisons of key themes
Component 3: Essay
- One essay (250–400 words) chosen from a list of five topics published each year
- Total: 40 marks
24 marks for language quality
16 marks for content
