Structure of IGCSE Chemistry

Papers to Be Taken
Core Candidates must take:
- Paper 1 – Multiple-choice questions
- Paper 3 – Theory paper
Extended Candidates must take:
- Paper 2 – Multiple-choice questions
- Paper 4 – Theory paper
All candidates are required to take:
- Paper 5 (Practical Test) or
- Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical)
Extended candidates are eligible for higher grades based on performance.
The Grading Rules
Key points related to IGCSE Chemistry grading:
- Grades range from A (highest)* to G (lowest)
- Students who do not meet the minimum standard for Grade G are reported as Ungraded
- Core syllabus candidates are eligible for grades C to G
- Extended syllabus candidates (Core + Supplement) are eligible for grades A to G*
- Students aiming for top grades should choose the Extended curriculum
- Schools may offer Chemistry as part of Combined Science (0653) or as a separate subject
